Olive: Women Should Be Left To Decide Whether To Keep Their Pregnancies or not.

RX Radio Presenter Olive Najjuma has said that the right for a woman to keep a pregnancy or not should be left to women to decide and not governments.

The Presenter and her Co-host James Onen aka Fatboy were discussing a situation in Iran that now mandates local laboratories to report on pregnant women in order to prevent ‘criminal abortions.’

This was issued through a letter by the Crime Prevention Deputy at the judiciary in Iran's Mazandaran province and later leaked on Twitter by Health and Medical Journalist Mahdiar Saeedian.

This, according to Olive, infringes on a woman’s rights to make her own choices in terms of wanting to raise a child or not.

“The right for one to or not to have children needs to be left to women, because what if I have a child against my wish or can't take care of it? I think women should be left to decide on terminating a foetus as long as it's not more than a month old.”

Fatboy on the other hand said he was shocked by the way the Iran government wants to keep a record of people's private lives regardless of the fact that many of the families would like to keep such matters private.

“Its pure autonomy because not only cant one have an abortion but also the government has to know! That is very draconian, thankfully in Uganda no one cares whether you're pregnant or not.”

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy and Olive Najjuma every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio
