Olive: If You Want To Break Up Without Hurting Someone’s Feelings, Do It Precisely

When most relationships end, one of the partners, if not both may be hurt by the decision. But could there be a systematic way of breaking up without hurting the other person's feelings?

Today on The Fatboy Show, while sharing views about how best to break up with someone, RX Radio presenter Olive advised that the breakup message should be short and direct.

“It's important to keep it short because if you let the other person try to talk you into staying, you’ll end up hurting them more, and you might end up using cliches like; ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ which are even more painful,” Olive said.

“Also, if you're going to break up with someone, don't tell them ‘we need to talk’. Just dive in, tell them what is on your mind, keep it short and sweet, then move on,” she added.

She explained that giving your significant other reasons for the break up reduces the pain when the relationship ends.

Saidat, a caller on the show, demonstrated how making the person dump you is an easier way of leaving the relationship, without getting their feelings hurt.

“First, you don’t show him that something is wrong, and then one day you tell him that you have to go for a traditional ceremony in the mountains for initiation with the clan spirits and that your children will undergo the same ceremony one day. The trick is they will dump, and the idea will seem like it was theirs and not yours,” she explained.

Also in contribution to the topic, Onen said a man can easily break up with a woman by becoming stingy.

“For a guy, it's a lot easier. If you want a girl to dump you, pretend to be broke all the time, she will disappear slowly. Believe me, over time you will see her drifting away and when you meet her on the street, she will be the one feeling guilty because she would have ghosted you,” he explained.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
