Fatboy: Somalis Are More Likely To Benefit From The East African Community

In a meeting held between the East African Community Heads of states last Friday in Arusha Tanzania, the leaders called for the fast-tracking of Somalia into the EAC as the 8th member state in the regional bloc.

The EAC Heads of State during the summit agreed to and directed the East African Council of Ministers to fast track Somalia into the regional bloc after its second application to join since 2019.`

The decision to add Somalia to the East African Community is aimed at Deepening integration and Widening cooperation between the eight member states.

Wondering why the EAC was expanding to countries in the horn of Africa, The Fatboy Show presenters James Onen aka Fatboy, and Olive Najjuma also queried the goods Somalia will be trading with the rest of the East African states which they imagined might be their beautiful women.

“I've never understood these people from the horn of Africa (Ethiopians, Eritreans, and Somalis). On paper, they call themselves Africans but in practice, it's like they don’t believe it. They certainly don't act as though we are a unified people. Their dudes will be running around with our girls but they won't allow ours to run around with theirs,” James Onen complained during The Fatboy Show on RX Radio.

They questioned the statements President Museveni made during the summit in Arusha when he said, “the EAC is not about politics but finding common markets.”

Olive Najjuma, the show co-host was perplexed by the President's remarks about establishing common markets when the countries keep banning products from one another.

“Earlier this year, we couldn’t sell our maize and poultry products to Kenya. Even Tanzania just lifted the ban on Uganda’s sugar, yet we import their goods because our market is saturated. When you look for spices, you will find tropical heat everywhere, but how many Ugandan products are sold in Kenya?” Olive asked.

Fatboy said, “It seems the Somalis might benefit more from this than the rest of us. I imagine that they are the ones struggling to find markets for their products if any.”

If admitted, the Federal Republic of Somalia will become the 8th member of the EAC after, the Democratic Republic of the Congo which also joined earlier this year in addition to South Sudan Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
