Fatboy: Parents Need To Influence How Their Children Think

With the current information outburst on the internet and social media, RX Radio Presenter James Onen aka Fatboy has suggested that parents will have to guide their children on what they consume and perceive as right or wrong.

Acknowledging that he is not yet a parent, Fatboy is of the view that the rapid development of technology requires parents to be cautious about how their children’s perceptions are shaped as they grow.

“There needs to be a shift in prioritizing facts and figures from the internet to suit the parent’s ability on how best to impart what and how their children think, such that when they encounter all kinds of information on the internet, then at least you as a parent will be confident that they won't be making big mistakes in their lives,” he said.

Lesham Kenogo, The Fatboy Show Co-host said that considering how she was information -seeking as a child even before the era of social media, she believes that if she becomes a parent, she will have to delay acquisition of phones for her children till they clock a certain age.

However, Fatboy in response told her that in the future, children might not need to own phones to gain access to information following a new tech advancement.

Neuralink Corporations started by Elon Musk, is a neurotechnology company developing implantable devices with ultra high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces that connect humans to computers.

On April 9th 2021, Neuralink exhibited tests where a monkey successfully played Ping Pong on a computer using its brain without any physical touch.

The future of this technology meant for humans will require a surgical procedure where a microchip called a link will be inserted into a person’s brain that will simultaneously record and stimulate brain activity enabling the user operate their technological gadgets without touching them. The application will also be used to treat neurological and spinal disorders and is expected to start this year.

Lesham, worried about the future, asked whether she and Fatboy could contribute finances and resort to raising their children on an island to keep them away from bizzare information and technology.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
