Excited about the reopening of the economy in January 2022, RX Radio Presenter James Onen aka Fatboy said he is yearning to be able to enjoy nights out after curfew is lifted.
He mentioned this after the Minister Of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, released the reopening dates for schools and the calendar for the year 2022, where pre-primary to secondary are to resume on January 10th 2022 for three school terms until the 9th of December.
After closing schools for nearly two years, learners are to be promoted automatically to the next class.
Commenting on this, Fatboy said that amidst this confusion and disruption, he was happy that the education sector had finally reopened. However, he was more excited about the plans to fully reopen the economy as promised by the President.
“Well, it's gonna be a confusing mess but still I think we can agree that it's a good thing that we are reopening schools. I am yet to hear details on bars and clubs though I want to specifically hear the President say; ‘bars and clubs can open,’ because I’m worried that he might not,” the Presenter said.
Olive, his Co-host, assuring Fatboy re-echoed the words of the President who said that whether people are vaccinated or not, the country’s economy shall fully reopen in 2022.
She added that, “If you ask me, I'm so tired of curfew because I don't remember the last time I was limited in movement by anyone until now.”
Moreso Fatboy added, “I view lockdowns and curfew like house arrest, I almost feel like a prisoner in my own country and city. The Kampala nightlife is so nice and we've been missing out on eating out late at nice restaurants, going to movies, hanging out with friends and that whole night life,” he said.
In October this year, President Museveni promised to re-open schools fully in January 2022 together with the rest of the economy. At that time, the vaccination target of 4.8million Ugandans was reached and later revised to 7million. The President said the sectors would be opened regardless of whether people are fully vaccinated or not, adding that whatever would go wrong would be personal responsibility and not of the government.
