Fatboy:Comic Book Movies Are What's Saving The Theaters

The declining ratings and audience viewership of American Awards ceremonies may be attributed to loss of interest in superstar related movies among people according to RX radio’s presenter James Onen aka Fatboy.

In 2021, the Oscars drew an audience of 10.4 million viewers, the worst numbers it has ever recorded in its history according to the Guardian newsblog. It also reported that although it managed to pull up its 2022 ratings by 50 percent (15.36 million viewers), it was still its second worst rating.

The Grammys also registered a relatively low increase of 1.4 percent viewers, a slight increase that drew 8.93 viewers away from the previous year’s 8.8 million which was partly virtual due to the global pandemic.

In his comment to the shocking events,The Fatboy Show host, James Onen aka Fatboy said that, People used to say it was a joke but it's really a serious point. Comic book movies are what's saving the theaters. People are only going to a theater to watch movies of a long running franchise of books such as Spiderman, Chang Chi or Batman or a Harry Potter spin off and not so much if it's an original story featuring a major star as its headliner.”

He gave reference to movies like Halle Berry's movie, Moon Fall and The Last Duel that featured Ridley Scott, Mark Damon and Adam Driver which all flopped in Cinemas.

He opined that perhaps social media has killed the mystery around Superstars that they no longer attract as much attention as they used to in the 90’s. He added this to the controversial opinions some celebrities express towards subjects such as politics that shakes off part of their fans and followers.

He went on to say that people are growing more attached to their social media influencers whom they naturally tend to relate more with compared to television celebrities.

Daniel Omara also said that the influencers have more appealing content that sees them grow with their audiences as compared to television characters.

“There are people like Mauler whose faces you've never seen but you rely entirely on the quality of his content unlike a lot of old skool entertainers who are all about aesthetics. You have to see them looking good in public to like them. Unfortunately we experience the opposite of their content from their social media counterparts,” said Daniel.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
