RX Radio's Olive: It would be a shame if Kony got away with the atrocities he committed

RX Radio Presenter Olive Najjuma has said Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebel leader Joseph Kony and other LRA rebels need to be severely punished for the atrocities they committed on the people of Northern Uganda.

This comes at a time when Dominic Ongwen, one of the rebel leaders is facing criminal charges after he was found guilty by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of 61 war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Ogwen through his lawyers is appealing the conviction under the defense that he was abducted by Kony and his rebels when he was only 9 years and recruited into the LRA, raising in rank over the years.

"It is good that Ongwen is being convicted. I heard somewhere that Kony died of covid-19 although there is no way to verify this. Him dying of covid-19 would, be an injustice to all the crimes he committed against the people of Northern Uganda. They were burning people in their houses, abducting young children and turning them into child soldiers, killing unarmed children and women. He deserves to die a painful death, something as gruesome as the one he meted onto his victims," Olive said during the Wednesday The Fatboy show.

Olive also added that Kony dying of covid-19 would be the easy way out. “Kony doesn’t deserve to die of Covid-19, that’s not fair!” Olive emphasised.

James Onen aka Fatboy who is a co-host on The Fatboy show said it is cunning for Ongwen to still claim he was forced to do all the murders he did and yet most of these he did as an adult.

”Ongwen should quietly serve whichever sentence they give him and not try to defend himself with excuses like the fact that he was also abducted as a child. He was second in command and ordered a lot of the killings that happened. The same thing should happen to the security officers that do inhuman things to Ugandans because of orders from above. As an adult, you know what is wrong and right,” Fatboy said.
