RX Radio Presenter Olive Najjuma has advised parents to warn their children against playing with random objects that could be hazardous and life threatening.
She gave the precautions during The Fatboy Show with Co-host Fatboy as they were talking about the recent bomb explosions that have dominated the past few weeks, some attributed to terrorist attacks, and others as remains of the guerilla war that brought President Museveni to power.
On Wednesday, a suspected bomb blast occured at Tirinyi town, Kibuku district injuring two children aged five and six respectively, who had picked the object from a banana plantation and started to play with it.
Inquisitive of the circumstances surrounding the blast, Fatboy questioned whether the bomb was an intended attack just like the recent ones in Kampala to which Olive responded, “UPDF says that the bomb blast in Tirinyi could have been left during training of some UPDF soldiers but this not an independent occurrence because there are other bombs that went off in Kapeeka in Nakaseke District. One went off on Thursday killing one person and injuring four others near someone’s home in the same place and three weeks ago there was one that killed three children in Semuto within the same district.”
She then went on to encourage parents to be cautious with what their children play with.
“Kids are prone to looking and finding things because at that age, they are trying to find their footing in life, so maybe parents need to tell their kids not to play with items they don't understand because it could be fatal,” she advised.
In Nakaseke district, four children have lost their lives while a number have sustained injuries to abandoned ordinances as claimed by UPDF. Yesterday, a teenager collecting scrap succumbed to injuries of a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) when it exploded. The recurrent incidents have propelled investigations by authorities as fear continues to loom in residents.
