Olive: The Late Speaker Should Have Spent His Last Moments In Uganda

RX Radio presenter Olive Najjuma has expressed empathy towards the Late Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah’s demise wishing that he spent his last moments in the country.

This was on the Fatboy Show at RX Radio where hosts Olive Najjuma and James Onen aka Fatboy commented on the circumstances that led to the death of the former Speaker as revealed by the Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.

While paying their last tributes to the fallen Speaker in Parliament yesterday, Minister Jane Ruth Aceng disclosed that Oulanyah had succumbed to cancer that caused a lump in his neck. She reported that the former Speaker had initially received treatment in Germany where the lump was removed and started on his treatment from the Uganda Cancer Institute.

Minister Aceng added that the multiple chemotherapy treatments suppressed his bone marrow and made him prone to other infections. He was then flown out to seek further treatment in Seattle, US, where he unfortunately breathed his last due to kidney, lungs and heart failures.

Olive said that, since the late Speaker was not transported using an air ambulance, the journey could have contributed to his early demise.

“In as much as the President made sure that Oulanyah had the plane to himself, it was still not an air ambulance. Though he had people escorting him, medics say that it could have contributed to his early death because he wasn't transported as someone ill as required,” Olive added.

“He could have gotten worse on the flight. Even medics said that given his situation, there was probably nothing much the US could have done and maybe palliative care back home could have bought him more time than wasting it on the journey,” added Olive.

But Fatboy argued that the suppositions would have been made even if the Speaker was left to get his last treatment from Uganda saying that others would believe that maybe he would have lived longer if he was flown for better treatment.

His co-host further asserted that reports indicated that the late Speaker’s doctors had nothing more they could do to save his life except giving him palliative care until his passing.

The duo expressed sympathy towards the late speaker saying the circumstances towards his death must have been daunting knowing that he would die in a few weeks.

The late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah died on March 20, 2022 in Seattle US where he had been flown for special treatment. He is to be buried on Friday 8, April, 2022 in Larogi, Omoro District.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
