Olive: The Kabaka Didn't Have To Distract Any Government Business To Go For Treatment

The remarks delivered by the Chief Justice Alfonse Winny Dollo at the late Speaker’s home on Thursday accusing the Baganda of being tribalistic and self centered have sparked mixed reactions from the general public on social media.

According to the Chief Justice Dollo, the National Unity Platform (NUP) members staged a protest outside the hospital in Seattle, US where the deceased was receiving treatment. He referred to them as being “wicked.”

He went on to wonder why the Baganda did not complain when the Kabaka of Buganda was flown to Germany using a presidential jet and “private funds” for treatment but only to do so to the late Jacob Oulanya. He referred to them as being tribalistic and said that it is an abomination to complain about someone fighting for their life.

Commenting on his remarks, RX Radio and The Fatboy Show Presenter Olive Najjuma opined that Buganda Kingdom is rich enough to use taxpayers’s money on Kabaka’s treatment. She added that the kingdom is self-sustaining.

“I am not saying the late Speaker was lesser than the Kabaka, but the latter didn't have to disrupt any government business to go for treatment,” Olive said.

Her Co-host James Onen aka Fatboy agreed with her, saying that chartering the whole airbus was unnecessary and extravagant, to spend $500,000 (approximately 1.7 billion shillings) on him alone while depriving the country of other monies that the plane would have made.

“Two things can be true, someone can be fighting for their life which can be tragic but also the circumstances under which they are fighting for it needs not be at the expense of others,” he said.

Olive further argued that although public servants are entitled to a number of privileges, it should not be at the expense of the public. She cited the suggestion from some people that the Government should take full responsibility for the late Speaker’s children.

“Is the government to take care of every public servant’s family that dies? Like the late Governor's wife who was asking for a house from the government, If we lose three of them in one year, shall we just give them things?” she asked.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
