Holding a discussion about partners having besties of the opposite sex on RX radio today morning, The Fatboy Show Presenter Olive Najjuma has confessed that she cant be in a relationship with a man who has a female best friend.
According to her, most times when a man refers to a woman as his ‘best friend,’ there is always a chance that the two were lovers or had a relationship before she came into the picture.
“Over time, men have told us that they cannot be friends with women. They say that, in the event that they are, there is maybe a chance or they are praying for an opportunity for when they would be more than friends. Though some men are platonic friends with females, I want to first understand what happened and what goes on where I am not,” said Olive.
She added that, if a guy had male friends that he used to hang out with often, after getting a girlfriend, he would have to change his routine to include his girlfriend in his programmes. If these are male friends, why would she be okay with his boyfriend hanging out with his female bestie all the time?
“I would have to understand how much influence “the best friend” has because some guys will be like, Oh babe, I was going to buy this piece of land in Namanve but then Olive said it's not good, what does that really mean? If we have dated for maybe a year or two and still every major decision has to be taken by the best friend, you see, that is why I wouldn't want my man to have a female bestie,” she said.
The Fatboy Show co-host James Onen aka Fatboy however mentioned that he no longer has female friends because in his experience he has been a subject to exploitation by them.
“Whenever I came closer to having female friends, I noticed that they would always call me when they needed something like giving them a plot, or when they needed a ride to go for a party or a favor with money and I noticed that it was one-sided. I was like a handyman just being used and it felt kind of exploited. Maybe I didnt necessarily want sex from them but it felt like I was the one always attending to their needs,” Fatboy said.
Olive agreed with Fatboy saying that women most times abuse the relationships that they have with people of the opposite sex especially if they have more money than them. They use the male friend as a run to guy when they need it yet a guy might have just needed a good friend.
However, Fatboy said that when a man in a relationship has a female best friend, his girlfriend will definitely know if the bestie holds more influence than she does.
