Olive: I Would Never Start A Business With My Boyfriend

Would you consider starting a business with your significant other? Whereas many would have mixed feelings about this question, Olive Najjuma, The Fatboy Show presenter on RX Radio said that making such a decision would be a recipe for disaster.

According to Olive the cons of mixing business with love are more than its pros and given that it can collapse anytime with the relationship if the couple breaks up.

“I feel like starting a business with your boyfriend is a recipe for disaster because, what happens when the relationship doesn't get to the next level, say marriage?” she asked James Onen aka Fatboy, the co-host of the show.

She went on to say that, “I think what people miss is laying down the terms and conditions at the beginning of the business, what are the non-negotiables and the negotiables?”

But Fatboy wondered what terms and conditions a couple must think about when they love and understand each other.

“Love and business don't mix, and I think that's why when a relationship ends, most businesses collapse if they were for two lovers,” she replied.

In contrast, Fatboy opined that if a business wasn't directly being run by the couple, perhaps it would survive.

“If it's the kind of business where you are just injecting money and neither of you is involved intimately in the running of the business, there could be a chance of it continuing to run because there, you don't even have to see each other, the money is doing the work. But if you are both working there for instance, one is a manager and the other is a director, then there can be problems,” he said.

Even for married couples, Olive reasoned that they should put into consideration how financially disciplined each of them is because one partner may be disciplined and the other might want to extravagantly spend their profits.

Nonetheless Fatboy added that: “I wouldn't say that it's something you should never do, or consider. Just make sure you've studied the pros and cons because I think there are some pros. Like, can you imagine after doing the ‘business’ there at home and you're lying in each other’s arms, could there be any better pillow talk than business discussions?” Fatboy asked.

But Olive thought it boring and maybe that pillow talk would happen when a woman wants to get money from her partner to start a business.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
