In a Tweet made on 15th December 2021, the Commander of Land Forces, also First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, requested President Yoweri Museveni to pardon the Former IGP Gen Kale Kayihura - saying that he was one of the special cadres that inspired him to serve his country.
The former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura was sacked by President Museveni in March 2018 on allegations of issuing of firearms and ammunition to the renown gang- Boda Boda 2010, abuse of office and kidnap of Rwandan refugees.
Irked by this, RX Radio Presenter Olive during The Fatboy Show this morning, commented that Muhoozi shouldn't be one to make such statements given his position.
“I feel like he is forgetting his position because as Commander of Land Forces, there are statements that he is not even supposed to make publicly,” she said.
She added, “He forgets that his personal opinions have to be independent from his position because even if he says Gen Kayihura inspired him, it doesn’t mean the government should just look the other way and forget all the crimes that he is being accused of.”
Fatboy also voiced his opinion, commenting on how the General was asking for Kayihura to be pardoned before the court’s final verdict yet pardon is granted after one has been convicted.
He said, “If you follow Gen Muhooozi on social media, he tends to make a lot of bold and brash statements and for the most part, I think he means them half seriously like this request which was an unofficial statement but more of personal sentiment.”
Olive insisted that the platform is now being used by politicians to express personal sentiments, giving an example of Donald Trump.
“This is not something small because it's almost a national matter. If Muhoozi is tweeting it, probably he believes it just like the other day when he stated that the Ethiopian Government shouldn't be fighting the Tigray rebels because they all come from the same place. Such statements from a Commander of Land forces are intolerable,” she held.
Fatboy protested that even though Gen Muhoozi holds such a significant position, he too has a right to publicly express his feelings as an individual.
Kale Kayihura was sent to Luzira prison and replaced with Martin Okoth Ochola, and in August of the same year, he was granted bail. He has since been left battling the charges from the Makindye General Court martial.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
