Olive: Corruption Will Not Depart From Our Country Anytime Soon

Commenting on the leader of People’s Transition Group, Dr. Kizza Besigye’s sentiments of how President Museveni’s government could improve the livelihoods of Ugandans, the RX Radio presenter Olive Najjuma surmised that corruption in the country isn’t ending anytime soon.

While addressing journalists at his home in Kasangati yesterday before being put under house arrest, Dr. Besigye said that the money retrieved from corruption scandals and officials should be used to increase salaries of civil servants and improve the Education sector.

In her response to the remarks, Olive said, “when you think about it, you will realize that corruption maynot end in our country any soon because any person that gets into a position of power or influence, what do they do first? They ‘secure their future’. And it all comes down from the decisions, policies and positions given to certain people like RDCs. Do we need them?”

Her co-host James Onen commonly known as Fatboy in the same view agreed that the duplication of political positions was overwhelming and this makes some people in those positions redundant hence delivering little compared to what is spent on them.

In his statements, Dr Kizza Besigye said that there are very many unnecessary Members of Parliament (over 500) that needed to be reduced because their costs weigh significantly on Ugandans’ pockets.

He added that RDCs should go back to the villages and farm cassava for the now “cassava republic” so that there is enough cassava in the market for people to buy. All this he said before trying to stage a protest against the high cost of essential commodities and living in general.

Fatboy said that he was pleased that the opposition was finally standing up against the issues affecting the common man.

“At least I am quite happy to see activity from other members of the opposition. For a while, it was all about NUP but then we can see some moves being taken by the FDC guys, Mao, so I think our opposition is being more active and I think that's healthy especially now that NUP seems to be taking their popularity for granted,” said Fatboy.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
