If you have ever been in a romantic relationship, probably you have experienced heartbreak before.
Depending on the type of relationship, some people are thrown into a deep depression, which could range from weeks to years before they can heal.
Today on The Fatboy Show when discussing how one can get over a heartbreak, presenter Olive Najjuma opined that a person has to accept that the relationship has hit its end and allow themselves to experience the emotions if they want to overcome the heartbreak.
“Let yourself be upset, go through the emotions, allow yourself to cry, be angry and break a few things if you have to (not an entire house). Let yourself feel the uncomfortable emotions of sadness, emptiness, and loneliness. After all, if you don't, you will be delaying the inevitable because you have to deal with them to get to the next level,” she said.
James Onen also called Fatboy, agreed, saying that he tries to distract himself in case of a breakup but eventually the unfelt feelings tend to manifest later, especially in a new relationship where the other partner will not fully get the love and comfort from their new partner because they are still under their emotions.
Olive additionally said that after a breakup, a person needs to distance themselves from their ex. “As much as it kills, you need to stay away from your ex,” she advised.
Chantal, a participant in the show agreed with Olive saying that the first step to dealing with heartbreak is acceptance.
“Accept the pain. If you have been dumped accept you have been dumped especially in scenarios where you’ve tried to get them back in vain,” she said.
According to her, acceptance helps one comprehend the root cause of the breakup. “It doesn’t take the pain away but from understanding the cause, we can deal with the pain. If you live in denial after a heartbreak, you end up living more in pain,” she explained.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
