In a bid to strengthen the Uganda-Rwanda ties that had strained for almost three years, the Commander of Land Forces Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba made his second visit to see President Paul Kagame in Kigali Rwanda on March 14, 2022.
Although the details of the meeting remain discreet, its objectives of sorting outstanding issues seem to have been settled.
During his three-day visit, President Kagame gifted Uganda’s first son with long-horned cows as he was also taken on a tour to different parts of the country such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial site and Kigali Arena, the biggest indoor arena in East Africa used for volleyball and basketball matches.
Commenting on Lt Gen.Muhoozi’s recent Twitter posts, Fatboy said that the first son seems to be popularizing the events of his visit and their relationship more than his ‘uncle,’ President Kagame.
“Why is it only Muhoozi posting about these meetings? Why aren't any official Rwandan social media accounts or even Kagame doing so?” he asked.
“Muhoozi has over the weeks posted dozens of photographs with the Rwandan leader while Kagame has been posting photos of his grandkid. It's like when you're in a relationship and realize you're the only one posting pics of yourself with your partner. Like how come you're not posting mine? Aren't we a couple or are you ashamed of me?” He continued.
However, Olive Najjuma, his Co-host said that if the meetings are bearing fruit which they seem to be doing, then the Lieutenant General’s posts don't really matter, although she also recognised him as being quite sentimental.
Further wondering why the meetings weren’t held by the two leaders of Uganda and Rwanda Olive responded, “I think for what it’s worth, the presidents have talked because these meetings have gone on for years and we've had representatives and delegates where the main parties did not come. So I think in this case with the ‘Muhoozi Project’ in mind, maybe the President decided to send his son but not because he feels that it was an inferior thing for him to do himself.”
Uganda-Rwanda relations went sour in 2018 following accusations by each of the countries of planned security disturbances in each other’s territories, leading to the closure of the Gatuna-Katuna border. It wasn't until early in January 2022 when the Commander Land Forces Lt. Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba paid a visit to the Rwandan President Paul Kagame that the two countries’ relationship was mended.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
