Fatboy: The Thought Of Marriage Is Terrifying

As the rates of divorces increase by the day, many people are prompted to shun marriage.

On The Fatboy show today, the presenters explored whether marriage is a terrifying thought or a scary reality. James Onen, a host of the show expressed strong sentiments against marriage saying that many times it destroys previously pleasant relationships.

“I believe it ruins a wonderful relationship because it's like an endgame. Many people are disillusioned by the purpose of marriage. In reality, it's not all fun and games because it wasn't intended to be. It's an institution through which two people come together to build a family unlike the concept displayed by pop culture to make it seem like it's about the wedding,” he said.

His co-host Olive Najjuma also reasoned that marriages fail because many people get married in their honeymoon phase.

“Most people rush into marriages before understanding each other. People meet and in 6 months, they are wedded. You need to give it time to know each other and weigh the pros and cons. Understand whether you're doing it because you want it or because of peer pressure,” she advised.

According to Olive, a couple has a chance of lasting longer if they make adequate time to understand each other during courtship, unlike when it ties the knot after a few months of dating.

Faith, a contributor to the show who also identified as a virgin posited that although marriage is a scary reality, it's the right way to get intimate and reproduce.

“It is just a scary reality, but the fear of having to experience it is one of those we have to go through in life. I like the way our spiritual leaders are teaching us. They aren’t discouraging us that it's horrible and a war zone, they tell us that it remains a beautiful thing even though it comes with its challenges,” she said

In her opinion, the willingness of the couple to make the relationship work even in the midst of challenges is what counts because cohabiting couples face similar problems. To her, marriage is only different in terms of the responsibilities partners owe each other.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
