Fatboy: Let’s Not make President Magufuli’s death about Covid-19

RX Radio Presenter James Onen aka Fatboy has expressed his utmost respect and admiration for the deceased President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli for his stand on handling the Covid 19 pandemic.

President Magufuli died on Wednesday from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam at the age of 61 according to vice president Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Magufuli was one of Africa's most prominent coronavirus sceptics, and called for prayers and herbal-infused steam therapy to counter the virus. There have been unconfirmed rumours he was infected with Covid-19 and died of Covid-19 some days back.

“It is said that he died of heart complications. Let’s not make this about Covid-19 and how the president handled it. Death is normal but even if he died of Covid-19, I salute him for living and dying on his own principles,’’ Fatboy said on the Thursday The Fatboy Show.

Fatboy is one of Ugandans that has been critical of the government of Uganda and the rest of the world for putting their economies on halt just to combat a disease that has a low fatality rate.

His co-host Olive Najjuma said that it’s possible that President Magufuli could have died of a heart complication that was triggered and made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We must agree that COVID-19 is real and is killing people. Denying this fact will not make the situation any better and might just worsen it,’ she said.

According to Tanzania's constitution, Ms Hassan will be sworn in as the new president and should serve the remainder of Magufuli's five-year team which he began last year.
