Fatboy and Olive weigh in on the new cabinet

RX Radio morning show radio Presenters, James Onen aka Fatboy and Olive Najjuma have joined a number of Ugandans that have recently come out to scrutinize and criticize President Yoweri Museveni’s choices for the new cabinet ministers.

Earlier this week, the President finally released the long-awaited cabinet list of ministers and other top government officials that will help him in the running of government in his 6th term of presidency.

Surprisingly to many, Hon Maj Rtd Jessica Alupo has been appointed as the Vice President and Hon. Robinah Nabbanja as the Prime Minister and Leader of government businesses. Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has been listed as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa Affairs.

While the appointing of women has excited many feminists, Olive is not one of those that is excited about this new development.

While appearing on Thursday’s The Fatboy Show, Olive wondered if the women were selected because of their potential or because they are considered easy puppets by the appointing authority.

“The appointments will do nothing to improve the status of women in governance, now these ladies will have to show appreciation to the one that appointed them and will have to abide by his rules which is very sad,” Olive said.

She however said she was happy for former Journalist Nadduntu Agnes who was appointed State Minister for Karamoja, mentioning that her rise to the MP status and current position is an inspiration to many, considering the fact that she was once banned from reporting from parliament because she was not academically qualified.

Fatboy on his part said the new cabinet was nothing but unheroic and questioned the President’s intentions in selecting some individuals for these positions.

“Like that Moses Ali, how come he has been in the same position since time memorial, what significance does he have on the running of the government that he can’t be removed from the position of Second Deputy Prime Minister?’’ Fatboy questioned.

He however supported the reappointment of Dr Jane Aceng as the Minister of health, noting that although she has made some mistakes in the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, it would be unwise for the President to choose a different person especially at a time when Uganda is battling the second wave of Covid-19.
