RX Radio Presenters Fatboy and Olive today congratulated the human rights lawyer Nicholas Opio for scooping the 2021 Tulip award in the Netherlands.
The lawyer is affiliated to Chapter Four, an NGO that fought for rights of civil liberties and human rights for all people including the LGBTI, which was shut down by the Uganda NGO Bureau in August 2021.
However, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded him the Human Rights Tulip as well as £100,000 to help him continue and expand his work, in addition to international recognition.
Commenting on this, Fatboy said that he wouldn't be surprised if some people such as Pastor Ssempa claimed that the lawyer was awarded the money to promote LGBTI activities in the country.
“Of course, when their accounts were frozen, the President made a comment that some of these people receive money under the guise of fighting for human rights yet it is to sponsor homosexual activities and oppositon politicians in the country,” Olive said.
Questioning the difference between this and the foreign aid that the government receives to promote other interests, Fatboy said, “How is that not the same? Some people may argue that the government gets money from foreign sources that gets diverted to further the government's own political interests. So why is it bad when the lawyer does it and not when the government does?” he wondered.
Olive in addition, asked, “The government might claim that the organizations get money from LGBTI sponsors but do we know the sources of the money that the government receives?”
Nonetheless, they congratulated Nicholas Opiyo for actively defending and fighting for human rights of the people in the country.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
