Following new research findings published in the British Medical Journal, it has been revealed that neurosurgeons and aerospace engineers are actually not smarter than everyone else.
The study, involving 329 aerospace engineers and 72 neurosurgeons also involved 18,000 members of the British population who were all subjected to the Great British Intelligence test.
The results shockingly indicated that the intelligence levels of aerospace engineers were slightly higher and problem solving quicker for neurosurgeons than that of the general population, who however, outsmarted the surgeons in memory recall abilities.
According to RX Radio Presenter Fatboy, this meant that whereas neurosurgeons and aerospace engineers may be more knowledgeable in these specific fields, in the others they can be as ignorant as the rest of the population or members of the public who may even know even more in terms of the general knowledge.
“So when PHD holders were convincing us that lockdowns work, the rest of us were using common sense. All intelligence needs to be subject to review, don't just claim you're smart because of your qualifications, but also let's hear your points and arguments,” Fatboy argued.
His Co-host Olive, then asked him whether indulging in a lot of reading about one’s favorite topical issues makes them more intelligent when they interact with a wide range of viewpoints.
However, Fatboy in response, explained that reading a lot makes one more exposed in the field but the ability to understand the subject is the skill set that makes them intelligent, adding that since people tend to have specialized fields, their competence might just be limited to them.
“The mistake we make is to leave decision making in the hands of the PHD holders by virtue of their academic qualifications, yet they may be just as clueless,” he added.
He went on to say, “The best way to summarize this is to keep it real and if you have your degrees and PHDs, don't be too arrogant to listen and debate with people. Sit and explain your ideas rather than assuming that you'll be listened to by virtue of the papers you hold.”
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
