Due to the transient nature of today’s relationships, RX Radio Presenter James Onen commonly known as Fatboy, has proposed that dinner dates should be the second step in a relationship, only after establishing a sexual relation.
According to the presenter, since men contribute more finances to relationships that are nowadays short lived, it prompts them to be more cynical when investing in one.
“If a relationship is simply two people meeting in a private place, having sex and watching a movie; that is not what most people think a relationship is, or if they do, they would have grumbling girlfriend. Because a woman in a relationship expects yes, the occasional Netflix and chill but mostly, she’s thinking of activities, events, dinners and trips. Guess whose shoulders that lands on? Which makes me wonder if there is any woman in Uganda who has ever offered to take her spouse on a road trip,” he said.
His Co-host Daniel Omara in response, said that such an action is like an abomination to women, unless it's on particular days, mostly public holidays.
Fatboy then went on to say that one-sided expectations have made men choose how much finances and time to invest in relationships, since after all they know it's impermanent. Daniel confessed that he couldn’t count the number of times he had been used for a meal on a first date and ghosted thereafter.
“Well I take the view that a dinner date should be given as a reward after there’s been intimacy. After crossing that bridge, then go on that fancy date as a show of appreciation,” Fatboy argued. He said that being stingy isn’t a natural trait to men but experience has forced them to.
“We tried being more proactive in gifting women, providing and spending on them and all of it ended up amounting to nothing. A woman is happy to run off with the next fella who may provide slightly more or in some cases less or nothing because the heart wants what it wants,” he said.
In agreement with Fatboy, Daniel said that before getting intimate, the rest of the dates should only involve a walk with some chewing gum, buying rolexes or watching movies.
