Miss Eco Tourism Racheal Ayo has revealed that before emerging the winner of Miss Eco Tourism 2022, she had lost four consecutive times but refused to give up.
She made the confession during The Fatboy Show in an interview today morning with Fatboy on RX Radio as she recounted the challenges she encountered before her final success.
“At first, my parents were supportive but at some point they got a little exhausted because I had taken part in pageants for five good years running each year since 2017 but never gave up. All the times I failed, I'd get up and still go for the next one. So my parents at one point were like; ‘don't you really get tired of that?’ Even from my friends, I received a lot of negative energy but I didn't stop. Until this very time where I presented myself just well and did everything perfectly, and then they announced me as the winner,” Ayo said.
The Miss Eco Tourism World winner in Uganda is responsible for promoting conservation and nature of the pearl of Africa through creating awareness campaigns to sensitize people about the beauty of their country and the need to protect it.
Ayo says she is a humanitarian who has a passion for the ecosystem and saw the pageant as an avenue that would provide a platform for promoting the cause. She is also a gender equality advocate and started the Rachael Ayo Foundation to empower the status of women in society.
“I created the Foundation because of the cry in society towards the abuse of women and children. In as much as we are at the frontline trying to create awareness, they are still being abused. So I came up with a platform where they can express themselves freely, get equipped with hands-on training and skills such as baking, hairdressing and knitting to mention a few. I personally grew up in a society that was male dominated, so I wanted to create a space where strong women could emerge and be stronger together,” she explained.
Ayo also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communication Technology. Her knowledge in the area has enabled her to write productive proposals in addition to developing software applications that are to champion the values of her foundation.
“We want to create an app where women can log in and reach out to us because we realized that we couldn't reach everyone individually. So we decided that if we do this through an app, we can reach masses that will be accessing our services on the app,” she said.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
