Following the armed robbery at a spice supermarket in Mukono district last week and the increase in a similar crime in Kampala and nearby districts, RX Radio presenter Olive Najjuma said that she agrees with the AIGP Edward Ochom’s order to Police, to kill the robbers on sight.
“If robbers go to a premise with a gun, police has to shoot in self defence if the robbers shoot in the process of stealing,” Olive said.
She explained that if security personnel were present at Spice Supermarket, where the robbers stole all the cash at gunpoint, they were justified to shoot at the robbers given their aggressive and forced entry into the supermarket.
However, James Onen, also called Fatboy, pondered whether Police shouldn’t try to negotiate with the robbers to ensure the safety of civilians in the venues because the violent struggle could injure hostages in the due course.
Olive replied, “I don’t think Police would shoot knowing there are unarmed civilians randomly, but if they refuse to surrender their weapons and police has a way of shooting at the robber, then they should shoot at them.”
Kim, a participant in the show, also condemned the robbery and supported the notion that armed robbers should be shot on sight, saying that sometimes they kill innocent civilians while robbing them.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
