Today on The Fatboy show, Fatboy and Lesham have agreed that the Marvel production ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ presented the best martial arts performance than any other Hong Kong movie has.
The duo, while suggesting a weekend movie for listeners, encouraged movie lovers to check it out for its awesome scenes.
Commenting on the movie, Fatboy agreed that even though he was not the least bit impressed with the looks of the main actor, he was captivated by the movie’s awesome taekwondo.
“The martial arts part was the best. I've never seen martial arts choreography in any movie like the one in Shang-Chi. I believe it surpasses any other movie we've seen from Hong Kong because it was absolutely amazing, especially the bus scene,” he said.
However, he was critical about the movie plot as one that was similar to the first Avengers movie adding that the appearance of Simu Liu, the main actor, was too standard.
“I feel like it was a copy of the plot of the first Avengers and that just didn't work for me. And for Simu Liu, I found him extremely uncharismatic and non-magnetic. I hate to be blunt but when it comes to movies, leads need to have a certain look. When you look at other Hong Kong action stars, most of those guys were handsome, such as Jet Li and Donnie Yen. This guy just didn't look the part though action-wise, I think he did okay.”
On the other hand, Lesham who was content with the character, said she was happy that normal people were being given a chance to star in the film industry. “I really enjoyed their casting and I related to the people because Hollywood usually has these incredibly hot people and random awesome things happen but this felt different and real,” she opined.
Fatboy argued that the film isn't about normal people but rather escapism where one is taken away from reality when they watch exceptionally beautiful women and handsome men.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a 2021 is a Marvel production superhero film directed by Daniel Destin Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige together with Jonathan Schwartz. It is about a martial arts master that confronts the past he thought he had left behind when he's drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, Sarah and Lesham every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
