Fatboy: It Is Now Hard To Tell Whether Bamuturaki Went To School

Circumstances surrounding the appointment of Jennifer Bamuturaki as CEO of Uganda Airlines continue to shock parliamentarians and the nation after she revealed that she had no academic documents to prove she was qualified for the job.

The committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises chaired by Hon Joel Senyonyi was shocked to learn that the Uganda Airlines CEO graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Works And Social Administration in 1994 but had never received her transcript. More still, Jennifer Bamuturaki did not possess the UCE pass slip to ascertain that she completed O- level in high school.

Bamuturaki, who was appointed directly by the President as CEO before she applied for the job, noted that she had the experience to run the airlines although she bore no visible aviation qualifications for it, such as a postgraduate degree and 10 years of experience in the aviation sector.

“At this point, it's hard to tell if Bamuturaki went to school,” said James Onen aka Fatboy, during the Fatboy Show.

Additionally, Olive Najjuma, the show co-host, wondered why the CEO of Uganda Airlines had never reached out to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to retrieve another pass slip if her original document got lost.

“She knew that she didn’t have these certificates. Why didn't she go to UNEB and Makerere University? Because these institutions are still in place and have the records." Olive queried.

She continued that with the position Bamuturaki holds, she can obtain her documents easily without having to go through the bureaucracy.

“She can't say that for 28 years she has never received her documents, yet she has been working in senior management positions for 25 years,” Olive explained further.

The Uganda Airlines CEO qualifications demand at least 10 years of aviation experience at a senior management level, the same experience in marketing and commercial aspects of the airlines business, and knowledge of Airline commercial systems.

Bamuturaki however, holds a Bachelor's degree in Social work and Social Administration with 12 years of experience working in the hospitality sector. She previously worked as a guest relations officer and sales manager at Imperial Botanical and Sheraton Hotels before she joined East African Airlines and Air Uganda which are now both defunct.

The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive, and Sarah every weekday from 6 am to 10 am on RX Radio.
