Although more than five people have shown interest in vying for Omoro County Parliamentary seat in Omoro district to replace the late Jacob Oulanya. The Fatboy Show presenters James Onen aka Fatboy and Olive Najjuma believe that Oulanyah’s son Andrew Ojok will win by landslide.
They made the prediction after Andrew Ojok, the son to the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah finally responded to calls from the elders of his clan to vie for the Omoro County parliamentary seat.
“To me, there’s no doubt that he’s going to win. There was a lot of love for his father and because he was thought of favourably, it will be very easy for him to convince the masses,” said Fatboy.
In addition he posited that in Africa and Uganda in particular, leaders at the top might be criticized for wanting to pass on their political seats to their children but the same seems to be true for even lower positions.
“I think the mindset of Ugandans is that a political seat is like an asset that you can pass down to your heir. To me, it comes as no surprise that the elders are urging the son to take up the seat,”Fatboy added.
Olive reasoned that Speaker Anita Among sparked off the conversation of having Ojok replace his father Jacob Oulanya when she called upon Acholi MPs to “make sure” that Ojok runs for the seat in the yet to be held by-election.
For six years, Ojok has been working as an Information and Technology Officer at NITA-Uganda before expressing interest in politics in order to continue with his father’s legacy.
Six other people have so far expressed interest in the Omoro county parliamentary seat such as Omoro district chairperson Douglas Peter Okello, the former Gulu Resident District Commissioner Francis Rwotlonyo, Andrew Olar the Omoro District Council Speaker, RIchard Bongowat, FDC’s Terrence Ogwang and Patrick Okot, a lecturer at Gulu University.
The Electoral Commission set 26, May 2022 as the date for the by-election of the new Member of Parliament to represent Omoro County.
The Fatboy show is hosted by James Onen aka Fatboy, Olive and Sarah every weekday from 6am to 10am on RX Radio.
